DAVID PICCO - s/t (2011)

"Picco's lyrics, sweet and soulful, openly bare their sentimentality, unashamed with trying to find some semblance of simplicity in the complications of grief" - Ryan Mcnutt, The Coast, Halifax

"Picco's understated vocals have rightly inspired comparisons to Uncle Tupelo and Wilco, but the low melodies and lyric imagery recall Ron Sexsmith - NNNN" NOW Magazine, Toronto

"A showman, without resorting to showmanship." - Hero Hill

Since moving to Toronto from St. John's Newfoundland in 2002, 31 year-old David Picco has been an unusually industrious musician. As well as releasing his first album, Saturday Night, Sunday Morning in 2006 and last years' Jetset Motel, by the band he leads of the same name, which have both received solid CBC airplay, he's gone on to produce legendary songwriter Kyp Harness's soon to be released album Resurrection Gold.

Now he is releasing another, unexpected album, the self-titled David Picco - unexpected because he found himself creating the album during a period of life-changing loss in his native Newfoundland. As such, it is his most intimate and mature work so far, a suite of ten songs dealing with love and loss, with spare, tender accompaniment. Recorded live off the floor over three nights in St. John's and one day in Toronto, the album showcases David's strong melodic gift, as well as his distinctive voice which NOW magazine has described as being "coarse-edged without being weary."

OTHER CDS FROM DAVID PICCO

Jetset Motel - s/t (2010)

"Jetset Motel's debut album brims with rootsy goodness. The four piece has lots going for it - like David Picco's appealing voice which is coarse-edged without being weary. Their melodies are top-drawer, and their songs - even the higher-energy rockers in the middle - retain a gentle unforced feel" - Carla Gillis, NOW magazine

"A motel worth checking out" - Kerry Doole, Exclaim! magazine

"The 10-track album is a happy discovery, full of well-written and played rootsy guitar rock...I'll give it an 8/10" - Steve McLean, Toronto music journalist and blogger

David Picco - Saturday Night, Sunday Morning (2005)

"Positively Heart-melting"- EYE weekly, Toronto

"Overall the talent is unmistakable, the individual songs well chosen and the performances outstanding"- hanx.net, The Netherlands

"His way with melody, lyrics, and Saturday Night, Sunday Mornings' overall sound puts him squarely in that place where Uncle Tupelo ended it all: Anodyne"
